Outer London Fund

In January 2012 the Greater London Authority awarded Cricklewood town centre £1.676, from the Mayor’s Outer London Fund (OLF) Round 2, towards a Cricklewood Improvement Programme (CIP). The Mayor’s Outer London Fund is helping to increase the vibrancy and growth of high street places across London.

This is a tri-borough project between Barnet, Brent and Camden, with Barnet as the Accountable body, and matched funding support of £591,750 from Barnet and Brent, giving a project total of £2,268,625. The delivery of the funding is being coordinated through the Cricklewood Town Team which is run by Cricklewood Homeless Concern and made up of local businesses, residents and key partners such as the police, Borough Councils and voluntary/community sector.

The Cricklewood Outer London Fund runs from April 2012 to March 2014.

A highly skilled team has been assembled to deliver the Cricklewood Outer London Fund.  Gort Scott Architects on graphic designs, shop front improvements and reactivation of vacant units; Robin Lee Architects and East on public realm design and delivery; Cricklewood Homeless Concern (CHC) on youth engagement; Retail Revival on business support and Udenson Caldbeck Associates on Project Management.

The Mayor's Funding will contribute towards a series of events and projects delivered through the Cricklewood Improvement Programme (CIP).  As well as tree planting, floral displays, street sign and pavement improvements, the general area will be decluttered and a co-ordinated approach taken to the look and identity of Cricklewood. Other physical improvements include improved access facilities for cyclists and safer environments for pedestrians. The high street will be further transformed with investment in up to 20 enhanced and improved shop fronts and visual merchandising. A programme of events is also aimed at giving the town centre a boost, including a Cricklewood Silk Road Festival and Christmas events. Opportunities will also be created to support young people in the local area including mentoring to business entrepreneurs, apprenticeships and job placements and supporting businesses.

The project has already had the below early achievements:

  • Implementation of hanging baskets.
  • The purchase of event infrastructure such as tables, chairs and marquees for community use during and post OLF.
  • First Silk Road Festival.
  • Undertaken a business survey which will help inform the types of intervention to proffer to businesses

  • Formalisation of the Cricklewood Town Team
  • Established newsletter and website.
  • Underway, design of a bespoke sustainable Christmas light.
